My dad was a VP at an oil major and has a literal story of an LNG tech being bought and shelved. Yet he’s still just like the people he complains about in that story. They’re a strange generation, these boomers.

Some companies in my area are installing them for free, and taking the utility difference. It’s a novel approach.

To ballpark some numbers on the contractor side, I charge about $100/hr to install it now - 4 years ago that might have been $60/hr.

I feel like you assume they’re reselling for a business. They could be buying baby shoes, or a gift for that nephew for his birthday, to make him forget how bad life is.

Yeah, of you feel guilty, buy them something.

A lot of it is because of need. The lower rungs of our society have been pushed to the point where the risk of being caught and jailed is less of a driver than hunger. The social fabric is unravelling. I just hired someone and I’m giving them a living wage and I’m getting suspicion in return.

Yeah, that’s about where our society is pushing people. I hope you find better work - I know that sound like a platitude, but try reaching out to people you know and hope for luck. You deserve a living wage and respect.

Interesting voices that are active did break off of Reddit and make their way to Lemmy. Spez did the communities here a favor by reminding people that their engaging content, moderated by volunteers, was the product he was holding hostage.

One of my favorite outcomes of the purge is when I occasionally look at Reddit, I’ll see an enthusiastically titled post from oldfreefolk, with ZERO replies. Are those goofballs over here anywhere, I’d love a bit more of bobbyb in my life.
Put a different operating system on each one, and make each a gateway to access the next. See who can make it through.
