Bottles Next, the successor of the current Bottles is in development. Of course it’s a Rust rewrite. 🤦♂️ The project has slowed down since then considerably.

I’m on pro Linux side and still think that trend was pushed by AI scrappers.

This rewriting almost killed the project and I still fear for Bottles.

It’s a trend between kids going for an “advanced” distro

They have been as of late

I use malware, btw 😎
Arch should be stopped to be recommended to new users of Linux ASAP

Yeah, out of tree modules… For now.
It’s too bad that Stallman is just a neckbeard ancap.

Again, that’s not the point.

I didn’t think Linux needs to be in defense systems and Teslas, for instance. You have money driven metrics of success that’s not necessarily true for FOSS. And nobody is talking about monry per si but about governance instead. Class struggle is how concessions are taken from the Capital, not by bending to the Man.

I’m tempted to put Linux in the second class: I didn’t vote to put Linux in AI servers, defense projects, Teslas. I didn’t choose to ban devs based on their nationalities either. I’d be pretty wary of allowing MIT kernel modules.

Pyhton, Perl, or Awk? Is there any sense at choosing nowadays?

Nope, this os more about the state of things in general. I’m not only blaming the kids, certainly there also insidious work at play here in how nobody is stepping up to keep the boat on the original intended course.
And the old gurus are to blame as well, many either kneel to the Man with fat pockets or stopped to care.
As for what is the right course, do you see the “socialist” up there? That’s also a discussion we have in our circles. “Is mass adoption always good?” Or “Is it better to have 5% of highly engaged people in a community whom the (apolitical) ‘sheep’ will follow and learn to and to build up from there?” You may guess my favorite approach.

Yes, alas the tech community is too infested of liberals who don’t see how the current make up of corpo backed up “foss” is bad for the overall community, like the commenter above. We’re in an all time high disinterestedness about FOSS policies and politics.
The guys who created the ecosystem were experienced adults, the kids who are inheriting it don’t know nothing and don’t want to learn it either.
The old men are culprit of this too, Linux was never aboult only “gaming like Windows” and they failed at teaching this. And here we are.
The Gnomisms remain.
Icaza is a MS drone. That may explain why Gnome Project is so stubborn.

The sloppiness of people relying on slop.
Someone has to write these drivers you speak of. Preferentially the hw vendor.
I may aswell ask here: suppose I have a bunch (like, a lot of them) of Wine / Proton prefixes managed by Botttles and want to move on with the least of hassle, keeping these prefixes and my preferences intact. Is this possible with some other solution? I’m not a strict gamer, my prefixes have more productivity applications than games per si. So I didn’t look into Steam, Lutris, etc.
