My ISP does not have a data cap or anything like that so I pay no attention to that. What are you doing that you only use that much?

10·2 days agoI heard that it was going 10x 🤪. My suggestion get a pihole and don’t pay the, checks calculation $0.00, plus you get ad blocking on a lot of the web.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Paperless-ngx and seeking suggestions for getting into a decent workflowEnglish
2·2 days agoI am relatively new to the whole paperless thing but I have a couple of email addresses that it watches, one that saves the email as the document and one that saves the attachments. My pi 5 has no problem scanning documents that I can then send to one of my paperless emails. I can also forward emails I want saved to the other paperless email. I am still going into the web ui to make sure things are tagged right, but paperless is awesome it does OCR and it fixes files that were scanned at a bit of an angle.
I am trying to work through a system that prints documents according to events on my calendar, with HA.

2·2 days agoDid something to import all my photos to nextcloud, sorry do not remember what I did but was unhappy with how my devices were not syncing that fast. Then I found immich and just put them there, still not as fast as Apple photos but faster than nextcloud.

5·3 days agoI am unfamiliar with Ente, as I use immich to replace my apple photos and it runs great on a pi 5. I only have the stuff backed up locally in a few different places and some of my things on my phone like passwords and pictures. I want to get a pi 4 to act as an offsite place to back up my stuff. My homelab runs off of 4 or 5 different pi’s, I have pretty much degoogled my life, I want to de-apple myself as well.

2·8 days agoI had a pi 5 that I was going to use as my set top box and install the media centre OS on it, Jeff Geerling shows how you can do it with a pi 5, but it got damaged when my place flooded and insurance does its thing to screw you over and I never got around to testing it.

I have my own domains, but I do not use them for Jellyfin. I use Jellyfin on my lan or over my personal VPN.

I guess Sony does not, but they allow Amazon and/or Google onto the TV and if you think they are not getting money from you that way I have some nice ocean side property to sell you here in Saskatchewan.
Yes I am aware one of my static IPs has 25 unblocked.
Every self hoster will say start with something, like… and another will disagree.
My suggestion is look at what you have and think about what you want to do, and go from there.
I personally did not do that, so take what I said with a grain of salt, I saw ads that where super targeted at me and started to get a whole lot annoyed. This annoyance got me to buy a pi zero and started hosting pihole on my network, I did something and the SD card got fried so I got a pi 4 to replace the thing not yet realizing I probably just needed a new SD card. I got grumpy that some ads where getting through so I got another pi 4 to act as a secondary pihole.
I now can say that I have 1 pi zero 2 running wireguard just for DNS, 2 pi 5’s running pihole 1 of them also runs my Jellyfin server and sails the high seas for me while the other one has some other services doing other things. I also have a pi 4 running HAOS, as I try so hard to get out of proprietary systems. I plan on getting another pi 5 to be my firewall and another to act as my blog/email server.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-hostable projects that are just for fun?English
31·10 days agoI went to see this F-ton of ads and I did not see poop! Maybe it is time you look at investing in pihole?
I started my Home lab adventure with a pi 4, still have it sure it has gone through many different OS’s and has been used for several different things and worn several different hats but it is still working. I think it has found its forever place in my home lab as a HAOS server with the POE hat booted off of a USB drive.
The only working things in my home lab that are not pi’s are: my printer, my wifi router, and the ISP modem. I have finally got around to ordering another pi 5 to act as my firewall so that modem will be switched to pass through. When I get that setup I will have a pi zero 2 to retire as my wireguard host.
I have 2 pi 5’s running pihole, one of them runs a bunch of other services while the other runs my arr stack and Jellyfin. I have a pi 5 that will host my domains, and hopefully email server(s).
I have plans to get another to replace my AppleTV as the media server in the not to distant future. I had plans to use one to act as an audio amp in my home theatre set up, I may look at that again.
Who knows just for shits and giggles I may find some way to turn a pi into a wifi router with VLANS and a bunch of wifi APs.
