You think (unpaid) FOSS developers have MORE time? O_o

Dealing with multiple computers is a pain (slow boot time and/or more power consumption and multiplied effort) and more expensive in most cases (you still need the minimum requirements of each part, but now there’s the rest of the each PC to get too).
I did it for power consumption; one small low power computer that’s on 24/7 for NAS + providing some services like home assistant, and a powerful computer for gaming, photo development, etc. I ended up being too lazy to boot up the powerful computer most of the time so I was doing less of what I like to do with it and my time spent on the computer was slower. I switched back to one do-it-all computer and I’m much happier.
The only reason I would want a multi-systems setup is if I need to run some things in the background that would make the computer unresponsive or unusable for some interactive tasks (e.g. local AI inference or training, video transcoding, heavy data transfers, …).

4·6 months agoNot exactly that but Cfait (which I develop) is a CalDAV task manager (which has an option to create calendar events). I added a time tracking feature so you can add / manage sessions (which show up in the calendar if you chose to activate it) and you do get a total time.
Arch everywhere (desktop with KDE, personal laptop with GNOME, work laptop with COSMIC, a remote raspberry pi) except a Raspberry Pi Zero (Raspbian) and the Steam Deck

2·7 months agoThanks :-) I don’t have an Apple device so that would be very challenging but a web UI version is in my todo list (I think it’s possible with the GUI/Iced interface)
Dino is good.
Dino and Conversations. They work well and have a nice UI.

3·9 months agoCfait does tasks, sub-tasks, comments, status (to do, done, canceled, started, paused), dependencies, and you could use tags/sub-tags to assign people.
You would need a CalDAV server which allows sharing “calendars” (I’ve only use Radicale and I do it there with symbolic links).
There is an Android and desktop (Linux, Windows, in theory MacOS) TUI and GUI clients but no iPhone. It uses the CalDAV standard so the data would still be accessible from an iPhone using a different client (but it might look less organized especially if that client doesn’t support all the same features).
Disclaimer: I am the developer :)

Self-hosted Forgejo Actions on a Codeberg repository. It was relatively easy to setup and I don’t even need a VPS through my dynamic IP 5G connexion. See also: https://codeberg.org/trougnouf/cfait

New features include the ability to set an estimated task duration, support for ongoing and canceled tasks, more powerful search (by tag, due date, task duration, completedness, and of course by name), and the TUI is more robust to external changes.

1·10 months agoThanks :)
It’s as simple as ticking off items (and adding new ones). The categories in Tasks (#tags in Cfait) and child/parent relationships are compatible (it’s all the same iCalendar standard). Tasks doesn’t understand the Blocked-by relationship but the tasks still appear.
You just need a CalDAV server to get going. I use
Radicalebecause it’s lightweight and single-purpose so unlikely to break (and a self-hosted Wireguard VPN because I don’t have a static IP at home). For Android you also need an app to synchronize with the CalDAV server (Tasks doesn’t do it alone), I useDAVx5(It’s all on F-Droid).

1·10 months agoThey are generated whenever a new version is released, and available on https://github.com/trougnouf/cfait/releases . I’ve updated the README :)

Putting “AI functionality”, i.e. the denoising models I developed that are included in Darktable in the same realm as LLM slop is an interesting choice.
I collected all of the training data myself and did all of the training on a university GPU (which is consumer grade, I plan on continuing the work on my own machine). Everything is open (research, data, code) and reproducible.
I’m curious what’s the ethical or other issue there.
Edit: I posted a discussion on their issue tracker: https://codeberg.org/ethical-foss/open-slopware/issues/1628 , of course it was closed right away and I was blocked from the repository and my response was deleted and they limited responses to contributors-only.
Looks like ethical AI is too sensitive of a subject for ethical-foss-admin.
