If only my TV had a Jellyfin app, I could switch, but alas it doesn’t. Got to use Plex if I want to watch stuff from any home streaming thingy. That said, it’s free to do that, at least.

I just don’t have the money or time to buy an external box and fiddle with it to get it running these days either, otherwise I’d build a modern version of the XBMC server I used to have in days gone by :-(

I wanted to move to Jellyfin, but there isn’t an app for it on the LG WebOS library like there is for Plex, so I wouldn’t be able to watch stuff on my TV, which sadly makes it useless for me :-(

I don’t have the money to be going out and buying extra add-ons for my TV to watch stuff either, sadly. So, Plex it is for now!

Yeah the medium of text can be tricky to convey meaning sometimes, I’m a pretty sarcastic person (gotta love using humour to cope with every situation, so healthy…) with a very deadpan kinda delivery on a lot of it, so I often find myself wondering if my intent came across well over text. Your username vintage balls reminded me of those little rubber balls we used to get at kids, I don’t see them any more (maybe they’re seen as too much of a choking hazard now?), so they feel kinda “vintage” to me now haha.

Those things could really bounce! I liked the semi translucent ones with the rainbow swirl patterns.

To be fair it’s been less than a day, one of the great things about internet messaging is how asynchronous it can be, it’s great for calming anxieties about needing to come up with a reply immediately like if you’re on the phone or something x.x

You’re right though, I don’t reply to things often enough, partly because I’m very sick with COVID at the moment but also a lot of it is my social anxiety and fear of rejection.

I get so scared of what people might say that I avoid looking at the replies, even when I initially reach out because I want to interact with people and form connections ><

It’s one of my big problems that I need to overcome, I’m still working out how to tackle it, but I do know it’s a problem, and it’s mine to solve.

Alas I can’t afford things like therapy, so I just have to stumble around trying to figure my ADHD, possibly autistic (wish I could get seen for a diagnosis…), anxious, dumb ass brain out 😅

I thought that was the shit Chrome was doing to block adblockers and antimalware plugins, if Firefox is doing the same thing what browser do we use now? :-(

I don’t care about all the browser wars stuff, I lost interest when it was Netscape Vs IE, I just want a browser that I can configure fully myself and have it be as safe and secure as one can make it, within reason.

Yeah, it does a fab job of giving me playlists in each of the moods/genres/decades I tend to listen to most, giving me a mix of tracks I know and stuff I can discover. I’ve found sooo much new music I love that way!

The AI voiced DJ is fun too, it’s surprising how psychologically satisfying it is to have a personal lil DJ, even when it’s basically just generating those same playlists under the hood, with a few tweaks.

I’m glad there are offline/open source solutions people are posting of course, I don’t want Spotify to ever be the only choice or some kinda monopoly. But yeah, if you’re happy using a service like that and spending a reasonable amount on a subscription, it’s fantastic :-)

We’ve all agreed that when he dies it would be disrespectful to keep using Linux so we’ll pack it up and switch to Windows from them on.

You make a good point! It’s too early in the morning for me to think about solutions to the issue, they mainly affect platforms used globally but hosted in a specific country like the USA (Facebook for example).

Though, it’s not like we have no say entirely, so there is hope :-)

For example, a major platform like Facebook banning/restricting gay/trans content would be seen as a pretty major case of discrimination and would certainly land Facebook in court over here, with their access to our market eventually closed should they not comply with our equality laws.

So sure, they could keep running in the USA, but their access to global markets would be reduced and fractured depending on how evil and draconian the USA continues to get, and how much freedom other countries have internally in their societies, to better protect from discrimination.

Which I’d say in a way is a good thing, allowing for local rivals to jump up to fill the gap and bring back some of the innovation and joy of the internet of 20 years ago! :-D

But there’s down sides too, it distances us from others, making it harder for us to connect with and understand other nations and cultures. I think having a platform that everyone can use, run by a monopoly or not, is a very beneficial thing for us all.

Anyway, just a few extra thoughts there. It’s a very complex and difficult topic, and I’m not even “armchair expert” level 😅

So often I see sweeping headlines like this that are actually only about a single country, and the country is always named (as it’s a key piece of information about the story) unless it’s the USA, at which point they just assume you must be in the USA too and so being up front about what country they’re talking about isn’t a priority xD

Good thing I don’t use Chinese state spying software on my devices then.

I don’t get that though, it’s not possible to block YouTube ads, so the adblocker, ublock etc, is only blocking ads on other websites unrelated to YouTube. It’s got nothing to do with them.

So… What gives?
