Can you switch to IPv6? My ISP NATs me on IPv4 but I’m clear through on IPv6 and so that’s how I run everything.
I’m assuming the NAT is your ISP’s, if it’s yours then ignore me.

I was gonna say, no way their memory estimate is anywhere near real world for some of those. This feels quite useless because “using the apps will blow past the floor” is some real “draw the rest of the owl”.
Especially since they said this was inspired by beginners not knowing what they can actually run on what, this is gonna get them way underestimating what they need

All I’ll say before moving on is legitimately you should maybe go touch grass.
Neural network does not mean LLM. I’m strongly against them for so many reasons. This is the problem with calling it all AI. My stuff was not generative, it was pattern recognition for a safety program for testing so companies could be held accountable.
Just step outside and smell the roses before you have a heart attack.

Such a strong science backed rebuttal.
I’m gonna go rethink my entire life now.
Being aware of the numerous massive lawsuits currently being levied against AI companies for their theft, reading research papers on cognitive decline in AI users, and being aware of where the majority of energy in the US comes from, especially for new AI datacenters, really does have a cognitive impact, but it isn’t decline.

Bro whatever you’re smoking please share.

Lol. Way to show how little you know. I swear AI bros get the most butt hurt over provable stuff.
I’ve stated my experience elsewhere but I’m a senior software engineer, 20 something years of experience. I have actually created a neural network from the ground up for a previous company. But sure, go off about how little experience I have.

I didn’t link any because the internet exists. Spend literally five seconds on google.

Their conclusions are right in the abstract in black and white terms. And this is just a teeny tiny sample of the papers that exist all saying the same thing.

This is where you go look at any of the studies and start figuring out for yourself.
They’ve been looking at it in several contexts including software development, general problem solving, reading comprehension, writing ability, and more.
In some they were instructed to use LLMs certain ways, in others they weren’t. That’s the neat thing about so many studies being done is they’ve used a wide set of methodologies.

That sounds like Socrates’ argument that writing would weaken people’s memories.
Saying it leads to cognitive decline is saying you can’t use an LLM and have critical thinking, which I can’t agree with.
That’s not me saying it. MIT, Harvard, and others have released numerous studies that show using LLMs does exactly that, reduce critical thinking. You can disagree all you want but until you do the science you’re disagreeing with a growing body of actual experts.

You’ll hear no arguments from me. Let’s cut energy usage for a lot of things. Let’s read books more. Let’s spend more time outside. Let’s eat less red meat.
That isn’t some gotcha you think it is. A lot of people finding the alarm over AI have been working to reduce their carbon footprint

Only if you don’t care about your own cognitive decline, property theft, and climate damage

Torvalds has slowly been slipping I feel. Just more cracks.
It seems like maintainers doing a thankless job in FOSS are some of the most affected by the AI mania

I refer to my original point I personally think anything LLM generated is slop and would certainly prefer to have literally any and every LLM generated code marked so I can avoid it. I do consider it all slop.
I also recognize that isn’t how the world works unfortunately.

Might want to stop using the slop machines and look up these words: metaphor, analogy, example

I’ll preface by saying I’m heavily against anything LLM generated and in a perfect world we’d have a full clean divide, just so my comment can be viewed in context.
I can’t speak to them all but I would not count Jellyfin as coded by AI based on their standards. Yes, people have likely used LLM “tools” to write code they submit, but they expect a human to understand the code/request, understand it’s purpose, what the code is doing, and explain the PR. A human is expected to fully own the work.
There’s no way to enforce that as much as I wish, but I think it’s a fair distinction between what would get an [AI] tag and and [Not AI] tag. Is a human expected to fully own and understand it, or is LLM code just accepted as is without full oversight and understanding.

And if one of the many amazing open source projects don’t do what you want, make a few of them better rather than spinning off yet another slop app that does the same thing that will split people and support.
Pro: I can update when I want. Updates don’t have me guessing every single time if they’re going to completely override my configurations. The updates themselves aren’t bug riddled AI garbage installing yet another electron app. My Linux mint uses about half the RAM a Windows 11 install used on the exact same PC and doesn’t constantly thrash my SSD or spike my CPU. Every issue I’ve run into has just been a lack of knowledge on my part, and easily fixed by guides online. Last time I had to help someone with an issue on their Windows 11 it took more time sifting through guides trying to find where the hell they’d moved settings and failed to document something than I ever want to spend again.
Cons: I genuinely have not found one yet personally. I’m not saying Linux is perfect, just I’ve had zero real issues myself.

Just about any of the Intel N series minipcs are often suggested for just Jellyfin. I haven’t looked at them too much yet.
This is more for like rating movies I’ve watched and books I’ve read, not calories or weight or anything. It’s not updating often enough for a monitor and it’s accessible from anywhere so I can pull it up on my phone at any time.
