i configured dyndns in my router and have it forward all traffic to a gateway vm running nginx and fail2ban. every service is on a subdomain so any attempt to fetch things from the main name gets banned.

can windows see the ssd? did you shut windows down the normal way or the hard way? because there’s one way to shut down windows that is basically a hard hibernate, where it keeps control of the drives. i don’t remember exactly how it works but it can lock other oses out.

i found that using alpine linux made things a lot clearer. i’m not a newbie but i gut ovurwhelmed by comylicated setups, and alpine is as simple as can be. just scripts that start and stop services, and configuration in /etc/<service-name>. where it started getting complex was with exposing services to the internet.

oh i know, it’s part of painfully many workflows. i don’t understand how it got started and i cringe every time i hear someone is doing it. i’m not suggesting this seriously obviously.

stop editing pdfs, that’s like scrapbooking. put the stuff into a mutable format and generate a pdf when you’re done.

yeah, the bigger DEs use more X11 features that they now have to build themselves.

i would also like to know what you mean. i daily both gnome and kde, gnome is by far the worse performer when it comes to multi monitor stuff. it’s more of a power user tablet interface, with great gesture and multitouch support. kde meanwhile just lets you put anything anywhere.

since it’s a state fund, return on investment isn’t necessarily just money back. more jobs means more tax payers. better reputation means stronger currency. less dependence on foreign actors means lower import costs.

i use latex beamer templates for presentations. it’s hard to fuck up displaying a pdf. if you want you can use markdown -> pandoc -> tectonic to skip writing latex.
