Linux@lemmy.ml•Please support this! As graphic designers we should be able to use a open source OS.
3·1 year agoYeah, I used to think the same… I dont know much programming (at least not enough to collaborate), but I usually help translating, documenting or answering some forums… Maybe it’s not much but it helps a littlw

3·1 year agoHave you tried collaborating to the project in some way or other? I think we in this capitalist world are frequently used of being given a solution, usually paid, sometimes for free (at least apparently). IMHO the change of paradigm has to do with first aligning with the ethics we wish for our world and humanity (I doubt anybody besides Adobe shareholders could cherish the idea of a world that using its products contributes to), and then putting all of our will and efforts in supporting the initiatives that make sense to our deep inner wishes for this world. How much are we willing to open ourselves to something like a different workflow if it makes sense with our ethics? The thing is that the paradigm perpetuates itself by us having being familiarized with it since we were kids. (Think Windows or Adobe in schools or Universities, although you could certainly bring this example to other spheres of human endeavours). Kids won’t break it… We need adults that, although have been indoctrinated with the old ways, have enough will power to open these new doors and create new realities for the children of the future.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which distro would you install on a celeron 2gb ram laptop for a lay person to use?
1·1 year agoMx linux with fluxbox
Totally. Please keep kids away from screens as long as possible.
For this laptop I recommend mx linux fluxbox edition. You also have a 32 bit version.

Linux@lemmy.ml•"I'll move to Linux if it runs every game I want" just say that you never will move
52·1 year agoBecause of bandwagon effect. The more people use linux, then even more will. And itll get more support from software and hardware developers. And the world will be more free, safe, and not controlled by a big corp.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which default software do you replace after you install your distro?
8·1 year agoI still haven’t found a web service that really needs a chrome browser or that you cant’ just trick with changing the user agent
If it is a second hard drive… Probably the win bootloader is on the first still? Check bios boot options
Maybe its destiny telling you you can do it without windows
Website states: "It is however not being done as an open source project & there are other options out there if that’s something you need your software to be. It does rely on open source libraries & a number of modified plug-ins for which their changes are being provided to comply with their code licensing requirements.
Ultimately I don’t want to spend the time to run a properly done open source project when there’s no guarantee of any assistance vs the overhead involved & my time management isn’t great so spending more time on project management isn’t imho a good use of my time."
I also hold to the view that source code without at least 1 developer is pointless & implies a dead / abandoned project. I do appreciate that it does allow for taking things on if it’s then entered into such a state without any developer(s) attached as I’ve done with some of the plug-ins which has benefited WACUP. So whilst I’m in a position to keep making WACUP I don’t intend on open sourcing all of it & view doing that as the end of my time developing it.
Chuwi tablets work fine with linux in my opinion

6·2 years agoIts working completely offline? You might want to add it here https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1815
I used manjaro for 3 years or so and then been using EOS for similar time. Manjaro broke a lot of times. EOS is more stable for me.
Ok I understand the technical reality you poin to, I just refer to the user experience. For a normal user, you probably won’t notice that technically manjaro is not arch and EOS is. IMHO Manjaro breaks a lot and EOS just works and needs less manteinance.
Endeavour os was the great manjaro replacement for mw
Being a linux user for 23 years and a linux promoter and installer for newbies, I don’t agree with so many of your recommendations and priorities.
It is great.
