Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux Mint 23 is No More. A New Release Takes its PlaceEnglish
4·2 days agoI mean there are reasons for going big too. I trust them to know what’s most appropriate and when.
“let me write that difficult email for you”
Honestly I like this one because people don’t appreciate the brief nature that I write in. I draft a message and then let AI rewrite all the feel good stuff people want to see.
I see. I use a password manager so it would probably not fill in the password or the TOTP and throw a red flag for me.
I was more referring to “authenticator” style codes. I dunno what else to call them. But you answered that as well.
Ah, I see. The point is no one can ask for your passkey, right?
How do you phish someone’s TOTP?
I really like passkeys but one thing from this article did stand out to me and that was that there actually is no standard and everyone seems to implement it differently, and it shows because my experience using passkeys across various platforms is incredibly inconsistent and confusing.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•These are the kind of reactions I get when I recommend Anubis to deal with bots at work, what alternatives are there?English
4216·4 days agoThat doesn’t really solve the problem. The problem arises when he presents the product. It’s a very unserious and unprofessional image that professionals see immediately when OP shows them the tool, which causes the project not to be taken seriously. Which is fine, because it’s not really a professional product, and isn’t trying to be. OP should probably just stop trying to present it as such. Any company is going to want something more common with funding and technical support anyway. Most likely what just about everyone else uses (Cloudflare).
Thank you for answering my question so succinctly haha

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's your favorite linux os you suggest to beginners who wish to learn linux?English
82·9 days agoEveryone has their preferences. That’s why there isn’t one answer. The problem is almost every distro compares themselves to Windows, and so they all have the same “pros” from that perspective. Personally I have 2 recommendations, and I’ll tell you which ones and why:
-
Zorin: Makes a good mesh of familiarity and ease of use. They maintain a database of different apps and will automatically point you to the most appropriate option. They greatly simplify the process of installing and using WINE. I happen to just like GNOME (looks more modern than KDE), and I like their modified version of it. Comes with a lot of what I consider “obvious” tweaks “out of the box” so you don’t have to figure out how to implement them. Their GNOME is also super outdated though, so some extensions don’t work.
-
Bazzite: If you want a console/PC hybrid, this is probably the best way to get it. If you just want a desktop gaming PC you can get that also. Either way it comes with a lot of gaming utilities pre-installed. Best of all is their “Bazzite Portal” which makes a bunch of common apps and tweaks that are otherwise complicated to install, easy, with the click of a button. There’s also an app for updates that upgrades everything all in one place, with the click of a button, and also will run automatically in the background if your system is idle.
But if you need support I hope you’re comfortable using corporate shithole platforms like Github, Discord, and Reddit, because if you don’t want to, they don’t give a shit.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•looking for lightweight ghost blog alternativeEnglish
41·13 days agoI run Ghost along with a dozen other services on a N100 Mini PC without issue. All files are stored as .md. And you can disable monetization, as I have.
My only gripe is that they implemented email authentication, which honestly infuriates me maybe more than it should.
And also their half-assed implementation of ActivityPub.
But can you be more specific about what you don’t like so that we can recommend a suitable alternative? Are you just looking for something as lightweight as humanly possible?
entirely within LAN
Wat? LOL
