Does anyone here run Cosmic DE full time? Does it have any killer features?

- I can afford good clothes now
- High quality clothes last a long time
- Having a Ubuntu shirt is a good conversation starter
- I would rather have a Tux logo than a Nike one
- Giving 5$ to KDE makes gives me the false sense of real contribution to the project

Linux@lemmy.ml•Fedora's FESCo To Decide Whether To Replace Upstream X.Org Server With XLibre Fork
74·1 year agoFrom what I understand, xorg has fundamental security flaws. How will they remedy this?
They won’t. Don’t download random shit and if you’re worried, run it in Flatpak
What happens when the Linux kernel drops support for xorg? Do they intend to fork an older version of the kernel in order to keep support?
Not really possible, since X11 is only built on top of the kernel’s graphical interface (same as Wayland). Even if that wasn’t the case, the kernel doesn’t delete any code that anybody uses (that’s why 30 year old programs still run)

Linux@lemmy.ml•Fedora's FESCo To Decide Whether To Replace Upstream X.Org Server With XLibre Fork

For the sake of all of our sanity, I’d really appreciate if FESCo could decide on this one really quickly (e.g. putting out a statement) and avoid what could be a most unpleasant flame-fest on this mailing list.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex now want to SELL your personal dataEnglish
172·1 year agoIf we find out “I do not consent” opts out, I’m fine with it.
Why? They don’t need more money. Jellyfin proves how much of their service can be done for free
You can dual boot it

Linux@lemmy.ml•I swapped the entire school computers to linux mint
141·1 year agoBtw I would recommend leaving a note on the desktop saying something like COMPUTER_SPECS.TXT. I had Linux on my computers in school, and I was thinking “holy crap Linux is slow and old”, but it turned out to be cheap hardware (and I didn’t know better, back then)
Honestly I started looking into it (found some articles from 2017 where he showed Nazi imagery) and started asking myself wtf am I doing.
Calling people Nazis over the tamest crap is so old. I’m so done with the liberal crowd on Lemmy jerking each other off over simplistic issues. Get a grip.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why doesn't the Linux subreddit leave Reddit already?
2·1 year agoAre you aware of any project that maintains a good bridge to Matrix? Because I’m in like 80 discord servers and not one of them has a high quality bridge

Linux@lemmy.ml•Wayland has a bright future ahead: The move from Xorg to Wayland had a rough start, but things have improved, and there is an exciting roadmap for the future.
10·2 years agoYou know Wayland will be ready when these threads don’t get 100 comments

Linux@lemmy.ml•Please support this! As graphic designers we should be able to use a open source OS.
412·2 years agoit’s just that software isn’t there yet.
I put about 2000 hours of work into $open_source_project. After a huge release 10xing the quality, we had about 1000x as many users.
The existing user base was ecstatic- for many of them, it was all they ever wanted and more. But we had 1000x new people saying “it just isn’t there yet”

Linux@lemmy.ml•Zorin OS 17.3 replaced the default Browser from Firefox(Old) to Brave(New).

Linux@lemmy.ml•Zorin OS 17.3 replaced the default Browser from Firefox(Old) to Brave(New).
81·2 years agoOk but like, that makes a terrible default for Zorin OS users. They’re gonna be confused and think it’s some hot garbage

Same is true about non-slop projects
