Smarter people than me can answer, but I had two similar issues before. 1) I added nofail to fstab because in my situation it wasn’t finding a certain drive and getting stuck, and 2) windows fastboot or hybernate had somehow made drive locked or appear dirty to linux

I’m not sure newbies should be dealing with package manager choices. Package manager is secondary to DE useability.
Or headscale, or plain wireguard if you have any qualms about the tailscale servers that moved from Canada to the USA several years ago.
8gb RAM on that machine. kDE used less than GNOME, but when you check the memory stats the extra was cache, not bloat
I have a 2010 laptop. Tried KDE and GNOME (as well as other DEs). I found KDE lagged on the laptop, and GNOME was super responsive. People told me it would be the opposite of that because GNOME was a heavy desktop, but it just caches stuff so its always ready and on a 15 year old laptop the cache was faster than the processor :)

I would never trust that much data to a single drive.
I found certain hardware to be a problem with Debian based distros and had to install Fedora or OpenSUSE. There was a bios bug that those distros worked around, the debian distros either failed the install process or threw bug on boot that killed everything.
So sometimes you are forced to distro hop.
They want the security patches that you don’t get with free version I guess. And maybe support.
Sorry, yes we do sales, so sell also means a SaaS subscription. That was my implied meaning of seeking to sell Ubuntu to Users.
So now you have a free update, but a note if you want certain security patches you have to pay for Pro
When Canonical partnered with Microsoft to work on WSL, I figured Caninical was gaining something too: like tips how to license and sell Ubuntu instead of being free.
OpenSource is different than Free OpenSource
On most distros Wayland is trouble free and x11 is a thing of the past. X11 made some things simpler like screen share with somebody , but Linux is growing large enough that Wayland (that is secure) is the best choice. You don’t want your x11 screen duplicated on a malware attackers screen etc.
Last week windows update stopped my laotop from recognizing external monitors altogether. Had to add nvidia tools and mess with system topology etc.
Meanwhile on Linux it was still fine, and also default on GNOME quick settings had a toggle for keyboard backlight on / off That’s a nice touch when somebody thinks of those little things.
There’s a discovery center store, or YAST2 GUI software center. This isn’t the 90s.

I’m not sure about those devices, but with a paid account it unlocks speaker grouping and casting to various devices or rooms, or play here on current device function. I don’t have their device, just a raspberry pi with the OS.

No I realize that, for me it was stuck on a windows partition , which was irrelevant to Linux running. It sounds like it found some corruption and wants to do a full disk check. Or maybe their is a hardware fault arising.
Others may have better answers for you.
